The Institute of Ceramics and Building Materials is a lasting and important part of the Polish research and development community that combines a high level of scientific research with an implementation of its achievements in the industrial practice.

The range of the Institute's research is wery wide and includes the total of technical sciences related to ceramics and glass. The global development of science and technology has influenced the scope of the Institute's activity, shaping the structure of its research facilities and the undertaken research projects. This has resulted, for example, in a dynamic development of studies in the area of bioceramics or nanoceramics.

Over years of co-operation, a strong bond has developed between the Polish industry of ceramics, glass products and building materials, and the scientific community of the Institute. Mutual trust and good results of co-operation make it possible to react promptly to the needs of industry with respect to the technology of material processing and manufacturing of modern products that satisfy market requirements. Tradition, modernity, scientific inquisitiveness and reliability in the execution of research and development projects underlie a good reputation and a recognizable trademark of the Institute and its staff.

Apart from the scientific and research work, the Institute undertakes industrial production of special, small-scale and unique products, filling recognized market niches. We find solutions to problems that are too difficult or unattractive for others.

BS 8414 Fire performance of external cladding systems

Instytut Ceramiki i Materiałów Budowlanych [Ceramics and Building Material Institute] has been the first in Poland to implement a large scale fire testing for building façades. Following the tragic fires of building façades that have recently swept across Europe, fire safety has become a particular area of concern for both the investors and institutions or authorities that set the requirements for fire safety of building materials.

Regulation ECE 43 technical service laboratory in Poland

Department of  Glass Technology is accredited in Poland by Transportation Technical Supervision as a technical serice laboratory responsible for performing ECE R43 safety glass testing for automotive applications.

Durability and effectiveness of concrete shields against ionizing radiation in nuclear facilities

Institute of Ceramics and Building Materials, Glass and Building Materials Division in Krakow, Institute of Fundamental Technological Research Polish Academy of Sciences, National Centre for Nuclear Research and company Hydrobudowa-1, are going to realize together a research project, which aim is to develop durable and effective concrete shields against harmful ionizing radiation in nuclear facilities.

New Laboratory for Innovative Materials and Environmental Monitoring just opened!

January 23 this year, was the official opening of the new laboratory of the Institute of Ceramics and Building Materials in Opole. That's seven specialized laboratories equipped with the most modern equipment worth over 5 million zł. The laboratory will perform not only research but also provide research services to private companies or institutions.

Laser technology in ceramic component decoration

talerze minFor many years the Institute of Ceramics and Building Materials has been preoccupied with developing decorative technologies for use in the ceramics, glass and enamelling industries by implementing research and development as well as target projects.

Ceramic backings for welding in inert gas protection

The Refractory Materials Division in Gliwice developed a production technology of ceramic backings for welding stainless and special steels in inert gas. The design enables direct supply of gas to the welded surface. Two basic versions of the backings were developed, enabling welding of both: flat and arc-shaped surfaces (i.e. large diameter pipes, tanks).

The innovative technology of producing autoclaved concrete has won an award in the competition for the Polish Product of the Future in 2011

miniICiMB designed an innovative technology for manufacturing of autoclaved cellular concrete (ABK) with the use of new generation fly ashes, i.e. those resulting form coal burning in fluidized combustion bed (FCB) boilers, with simultaneous process of desulphurisation of combustion exhaust gases.
